city lights

it's still ninety degrees
up here above the city
on the rooftop of a building i don't know
you have one arm around my shoulders
and point out landmarks with the other
south mountain hiding in the night
but we can see the red lights
like ufos in the desert
i've always loved the way the streetlights looked
laid out on the grid below
perfect squares and intersections
and you kiss me on the cheek as the city
keeps its secrets in the alleyways below.
